Greek geometric ceramic basket, 18 cm in diameter, with an owl in the center.
HANDMADE AND HAND-PAINTED IN GREECE / SECURE PACKAGING

Decorate your home with an Ancient Greek ceramic basket, painted and decorated with geometric art. In the center of the basket is an owl. The owl was the symbol of Athena, goddess of intelligence, ingenuity, and strategy. She was also the protector of the city of Athens, to which she gave her name and the gift of the olive tree. In these skyphoi, the owl is depicted perched among olive leaves. Because the owl is so frequently depicted in ancient skyphoi, the shape of the skyphos became known as "glaux"—the ancient Greek word for owl. In Homer, Athena was frequently given the epithet "glaukopis"—the goddess "with owl eyes."

Geometric art is a phase of Greek art, characterized mainly by geometric motifs in vase painting, which flourished at the end of the Greek Dark Ages, around 900 BC - 700 BC. Its center was Athens, and from there the style spread to the commercial cities of the Aegean. Vases had various uses or purposes in Greek society, including, among others, funerary vases and symposium vases. In this Cilix, we can see a ship in the center.
